Staff Advent Prayer Resource

Catholic Education Ballarat, has purchased a resource  “Advent 2022 Daily Reflections, Practices and Prayers - Awaiting the Good News” by Janet Schaeffler OP.

This is a resource for daily prayer, reflection and meditation during Advent. It is very accessible and related to life.

To find out more about what Advent is, see What is Advent in the Catholic Christian Tradition?

The resource will be placed in the prayer/reflection space that is off the main foyer in the Ballarat Office. People are most welcome to enter the space and use the resource for your own prayer and contemplation at any time during the day in this period of preparation for Christmas.

The space will be set up for Advent, reflecting an Advent liturgical theme.

Each Friday morning, commencing on 2nd December, staff prayer will take place at 8.30am using this resource.

You are most welcome to join in person in the prayer/reflection space in the Ballarat Office or via the following Google Meet Link.

If you are not based in Ballarat and would like a copy of the resource to use in the office you are based in or for personal use, contact Jim Waight.

Visitors and Catering to Gillies Street Office

Staff are requested to email Reception when you have visitors attending the Gillies Street office.

This information will be entered into the Reception Calendar so that whomever is on Reception at the time, will:

  1. Be aware of incoming visitors
  2. Be able to contact the correct person that their visitor/catering has arrived

As of Monday 21 November, staff are requested to collect their visitor/s from the Reception foyer as Reception staff will no longer be escorting visitors to offices or meeting rooms. Catering will be placed in the staffroom fridge for collection.

Should you have any concerns with this process, please don’t hesitate to contact Kerrie Zammit.

People and Development Update

ELMO performance portal is about to launch!

From 1 December 2022 the ELMO Performance Portal will be available for all CEB staff. The portal should be used to capture all your Goal Setting for 2023 onwards and moving forward ELMO will be the sole platform used for recording goals and performance and development related conversations.

On 1 December each person will have a Performance and Development Planner template loaded into their ELMO performance portal. The template in the portal is known as the “performance and development planner” and replaces what was previously known as a performance review document.

Each CEB employee will receive an automated email advising you when the planner has been loaded.

The first stage of the new planner process is setting your goals for the upcoming year. You have until the end of February 2023 to complete this for the 2023 school year.

Check out the Video Below of Frank the Explainer, giving you more details about ELMO and the portal.

ELMO FAQs

Why ELMO?

The ELMO suite of products (including payroll, leave management, performance portal and recruitment) provide user friendly, paperless and more effective people systems. The performance module has been included to deliver an online system to facilitate growth and maintain and encourage high standards of performance.

Having an online platform provides -

  • Consistency
  • A streamlined system with automated workflows
  • A paperless process
  • Automatic reminders letting you know what you need to do and by when

What about my 2022 goals?

Your 2022 goals should be closed out in the same format they were created in.

How will I know when there is something in the portal to complete?

Each time there is an action required in ELMO you’ll receive an automatic email advising what needs to be completed with a link to the portal to access your performance and development planner.

Why link goals to strategic priorities?

Through a collaborative process, including environmental scanning for emerging trends, opportunities, and risks with CEB staff and DOBCEL principals in 2021, our CEB organisational priorities were formed.

These priorities were developed cascading from the aspirations set out in Partnering A Step Further: Strategic Directions 2020-2024. The formation of the CEB priorities ensures we are focused, intentional and disciplined in delivering on the identified priorities.

Goals should always be intentionally developed and reviewed with the strategic priorities in mind to ensure the critical work being delivered supports the organisations strategic priorities. When inputting your goals in the portal you will be required to link your goal to one of CEB’s strategic priorities. Or to classify it as ‘business as usual’ where it relates to operational, ongoing work.

In the FAQ document supporting the ELMO performance portal, there is further information that will help you align your goals to the strategic priorities.

How do I log on?

You log on to ELMO the same way you log on to ELMO now to apply for leave etc. with a link under ‘General Resources’ on the homepage of SIMON.

When you land in ELMO, there is a menu on the left had side that has a performance tab, which is where your performance and development planner will be located.

You will find ‘how to’ videos and user guides including screen shots on the home page of the ELMO to guide you through the process.

What help will be available?

FAQs, user guides for both managers and team members are available as well as step by step ‘how to’ videos. You can also contact Fiona Murphy, Organisation Development Manager in the People and Development team for one on one support if required.

Will I still have face to face conversations about my performance and development opportunities?

Yes, you will still have face to face conversations with your team leader regarding your performance and development opportunities. These will occur a minimum of twice per year at the 6 month and 12 month check ins.

What will happen next?

On 1 December you will receive an automatic, system-generated email advising you the performance and development planner is available to access to complete the planning phase. The planning phase requires you to set goals and development objectives for 2023.

The ELMO portal is very user intuitive, and user guides, FAQs and ‘how to’ videos will be available on the home page of the performance portal.

You will have until the end of February 2023 to complete the planning phase for the 2023 school year.
