Andrea Cox - Announcement of Retirement

Mrs Andrea Cox will be retiring from the position of Principal at Ss Michael and John’s Primary School Horsham at the end of the 2023 school year.

Andrea’s journey began in our Diocese in 1994 as a classroom teacher at St Paul’s Primary School, Mildura. During her time there she held various leadership positions, including RE Leader, Curriculum Leader and Learning Diversity Leader. In 2004, Andrea took on the position of Deputy Principal at St Paul’s and continued in this position until she left the school in 2011.

Andrea then took on the role of Principal of Ss Michael and John’s and has shown dedication and
commitment to the role ever since. She has also extended her support to other schools in the area and served as Acting Principal of St Patrick’s Primary School, Nhill while continuing her full time role as Principal in Horsham.

In addition to her leadership at Ss Michael and John’s, Andrea has also made a significant contribution to the Diocese through her participation in the Ballarat Diocesan Schools Advisory Council from 2017 to 2020 and later as a member of the DOBCEL Family Engagement Consultative Committee.

Since the launch of the new open plan building at Ss Michael and John’s in 2011, Andrea has overseen changes to the way teachers collaborate, provide instruction and plan for student learning. Her contribution to the changes at the school is appreciated and acknowledged.

We offer our appreciation and gratitude to Andrea for her contribution to Catholic education and
acknowledge the support of her husband David and family during her Principalship at Ss Michael and John’s.

In order to support the transition to the next Principal of Ss Michael and John’s Primary School, consultation and advertising for a replacement will commence shortly.

We wish Andrea all the best as she concludes her time as an educator and leader in our Diocesan community.

ACRATH: Take the bitterness out of chocolate.

Easter chocolate is already on the supermarket shelves, so let’s recommit to using our chocolate dollars to buy slavery-free chocolate this year. It’s also the right time to tell our families, friends and communities about the exploitation of children in chocolate production. Encourage them to start buying slavery-free chocolate now – and to keep going after Easter.

You can find the Be Slavery Free Chocolate Scorecard via this link. The scorecard published in 2022 and updated before Easter, features most of your favourite brands and explains how they rate in several key areas including child labour, payment of a living income and the impact on climate.

It is with much sadness that we announce the resignation of Tamara and Scott Essery from the SIMON Team after 4 years of dedicated service.

Tamara and Scott intend to travel the globe, cruising Greece, driving through France and Italy, and motorbiking through the villages of Ireland. We are all very jealous! We offer our sincere thanks and best wishes to them both as they head on a new adventure.
