Principal Announcements

Announcement of Resignation - St Patrick's Catholic Primary School, Stawell.

Chris McAloon, Principal of St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School in Stawell, has accepted the position of Principal at St Francis of Assisi in Humpty Doo, Northern Territory. Chris’ last day at St Patrick’s will be on 14 July 2023. While we are sad to have Chris leave our Diocese, we are very supportive and excited for him as he takes on this new challenge.

Chris has worked in the Ballarat Diocese since 2015. He began as a teacher at St Mary’s in Ararat. His leadership skills were identified early and he quickly progressed to the position of Deputy Principal. In 2020 he was appointed Principal of St Patrick’s.

Announcement of Appointment- Siena Catholic Primary School, Lucas.

Mrs Shelley Ryan has been appointed as Principal of Siena Catholic Primary School, Lucas. Shelley will commence this new position at the beginning of Term 4, 2023.

Catholic Identity & Mission Update

As we celebrate the 8th anniversary of Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si’, we encourage you to view the film The Letter as described below, and then to perhaps indulge the senses in viewing Tim Winton’s 3-part documentary Ningaloo Nyinggulu currently airing on ABC.

A better future is in our hands.

The Letter, tells the story of a journey to Rome of frontline leaders to discuss the encyclical letter Laudato Si’ with Pope Francis. The exclusive dialogue with the Pope, included in the film, offers a revealing insight into the personal history of Pope Francis and stories never seen since he became the Bishop of Rome.

An interview with Tim Winton by Eureka Street’s David Halliday, describes the awe-inspiring reverence Tim Winton holds for the natural world reminding that “An ecosystem is a locus of creativity, a reminder of the divine impulse.”

The ABC is currently airing a 3-piece series on WA locations and ecosystems Tim encounters with nature as described in his literature. He says, “It is an invitation as well as a kind of celebration, a glorying in the wonders and miracles of this place, one of the last pieces of God’s body — as Hildegarde von Bingen called creation — that’s still intact enough to be itself.” It really is a treasured time to view God’s sacred creation through Tim’s eyes. Episode 2 featured last night.
