Reconciliation Action Plan

All colleagues will recall the Reconciliation Action Plan presentation and discussion from our July meeting at Damascus. While this work was put on hold temporarily, it will now move forward.

The broad aims for the creation of a RAP for CEB are:

  • Formalisation of our recognition of First Nations People across the Country on which we work.
  • Ongoing examination of our processes and procedures to ensure inclusion of First Nations and culturally diverse colleagues.
  • Promotion of reconciliation and justice.
  • Creation of opportunities that celebrate and embrace the diversity of all of our colleagues.

Staff colleagues who are interested in being involved in a working group to establish a Level 1 ‘Scoping’ RAP are invited to contact Joe Ewing.

It is anticipated that this group would be made up of a cross section of DOBCEL staff, from different sectors, geographic locations, and levels of responsibility.

Members of the working party will be invited to two meetings before the end of the year that will be held onsite in Ballarat but open to participants from other locations through VC:

  • Friday 3 November 9.30 - 11.00am
  • Wednesday 29 November 9.30 - 11.00am

A summary of the suggested actions from July is available here.

A definitive summary of RAPs from July is here.

November the Month of Remembrance

The month of November is a time in which the Catholic community remembers in a special way those who have died. It is related to the fact that the end of November is the end of the Liturgical Year with a new year starting the First Sunday of Advent – the four-week period of preparation before Christmas.

The Church, then, uses this end of the year period as a time to ponder times of transitions - from beginning to end, from life to eternal life. In the Catholic Tradition the community in November, gives thanks in a special way for those who have died in the past year and prays for their eternal rest with God.

In our reflection/prayer space in the Ballarat office a Place of Remembrance has been set up. On a table is a basket. Next to the basket are some cards and a pen. You are invited to write the name of a person who is dear to you who has died and place their name in the basket, it might be a family member or friend who has died either this year or previously. The person does not need to be Catholic. All are welcome. If you are comfortable you are also invited to place their funeral booklet or an item of remembrance, that reminds you of the person in this area. An electric candle will be ‘burning’ as a sign that we are remembering and keeping these people in our thoughts and possibly in our prayers. Symbolically, it is also saying we are there for each other, as we experience grief and loss in our lives.

If you are based in another office your office may also consider doing something similar at your place.

Join the Ballarat Foundation for Run for a Cause 2023 - Sunday 19 November

A change of course and event village location to Lucas, promises a new running experience, a morning of family activities, community engagement, and most importantly, raising funds for the Ballarat Christmas Appeal.

The Ballarat Christmas Appeal raises funds to support people experiencing hardship in the Ballarat community around Christmas time. St Vincent de Paul’s is one of the partner charities that will receive funds raised from the Christmas Appeal.

Run or walk! Participants can choose between different categories of runs or walks based on their fitness levels. This year, participants can choose between a 12km event, 6km event and a 1km Kids’ Dash.

How about try volunteering? A large community event such as this requires volunteers to help with marshalling, directing runners and helping in the event village.

Email lisa.hall@ballaratfoundation.org.au for more information about volunteering on the day.

Online registrations are now open – head to the Ballarat Foundation website for all the information.
