CEB Vinnies Winter Appeal - THANK YOU

A HUGE thank you to all who donated to the Vinnies Winter Appeal and to Jim Waight for coordinating our efforts.

Full boxes of non-perishable food items have been delivered to St Vincent De Paul Society, who were extremely appreciative.

DOBCEL Strategy update

This week DOBCEL Board Directors, Principals, CEB Leadership, Dave Runge and Pasi Sahlburg met in Horsham to consider the draft strategy for a high-performing system of Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Ballarat.

Leadership is working further with the draft strategy on Monday 12th August and will discern the best opportunities to unpack the work to date with CEB staff, given that we do not come together as a whole staff team in the immediate future.

Reconciliation Action Plan Working Group Update

The DOBCEL RAP Working Group met on the morning of August 2nd.

Minutes of the meeting can be accessed here.

The first round of feedback to our RAP has been received. Whilst some required changes were simple modifications of expression, there were some that warranted further consultation with the group. The thinking and discussion are recorded on a whiteboard linked in the minutes.

The working group began to look at principles for engaging with First Nations communities that have been developed through the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies. We will continue to examine these principles at our next meeting.

Jeanette and Helen have shared a webinar recording through the agenda that explores the notion of being an ally of reconciliation.

Our next meeting is scheduled for September 6th.

Please contact Joe Ewing for more information.

Child Safe Standards Workshops Aug 26 & 27 - Register Now !

Following on from the Child Safe Standards Workshops delivered in Term 2, Sarah Morgante – Director of One Red Apple – will deliver 2 additional workshops in Term 3.

The focus of the workshops will again be the 11 Child Safe Standards, Mandatory Reporting requirements and the Reportable Conduct Scheme. Sarah will connect the Child Safe Standards and the legislation in place to support their ongoing development. Staff will have the opportunity to consider their schools policies and procedures in relation to Child Safety and areas that require continual review and strengthening.

The Agenda is available here.

58% of DOBCEL schools were represented at the previous workshops and feedback indicated Sarah’s intricate knowledge of the standards and practical application provided an opportunity for staff to think through areas for future focus.

Actions:

  • Consider registering yourselves or relevant staff members to attend. Schools who attended in Term 2 are encouraged to register other staff members if possible. Whilst the target audience is leadership staff, the content is relevant to all staff working in our schools.
  • There is no limit on numbers and the training is only offered face to face.
  • Registrations are open on Try booking for principals and your nominated staff.
