Executive Director’s Update to Principals #34 - 13 July 2022

  • Frank McGrath - Announcement of Retirement

Frank McGrath - Announcement of Retirement

Late last term, Frank McGrath advised me of his intention to resign as Principal of St Joseph’s Primary School, Charlton, effective at the end of Term 4. As Frank will be taking well deserved Long Service Leave during Terms 1 and 2 in 2023, his time as Principal will effectively conclude at the end of this school year.

Frank has been an extremely valuable member of the Ballarat Diocesan Catholic Education community for over forty years. Following his graduation from Mercy Teacher’s College, Ascot Vale in 1980, Frank commenced his teaching career at Boort Primary School in 1981 before moving to St Joseph’s Primary School, Charlton in 1983.

In 1990, Frank was appointed as Principal of St Joseph’s, Charlton where he has served admirably for the past 32 years. This is truly a significant achievement.

Frank always presented with a clear passion for ensuring the best for all the children, staff and broader school community in his care over all those years. He has also been a very strong advocate for Catholic Education, serving on Diocesan Wellbeing and Finance Committees and as an active member of the Northern Zone Catholic Primary Principals Association.

On behalf of the Diocesan Education community, I congratulate Frank on his contribution to Catholic Education over the years and wish him all the best for a long and happy retirement. I look forward to formally acknowledging and celebrating Frank’s career later this year.

The search for Frank’s replacement will commence shortly. This will involve consultation with Fr Gerry Prunty, school staff and School Advisory Council members, prior to the position being advertised.
