Executive Director’s Update to Principals #4 - 9 February 2023
Chris Kavanagh - Announcement of Resignation
Dear Families
I write to inform you that Mr Chris Kavanagh has indicated his intention to resign as Principal of Siena Catholic Primary School. Chris’ Principalship will effectively conclude at the end of Term 3 2023, at which time he will take some well deserved Long Service Leave.
Chris has ministered in Catholic Education in the Ballarat Diocese since 1987. During this time he has served the communities of St Brigid’s Ballan, St James Sebastopol, St Patrick’s Ballarat and St Aloysius Redan as an educator and leader.
Chris began his time in Principalship in 2010 at St Mary’s Clarkes Hill and St Brendan’s Dunnstown, as dual Principal, before moving to Siena Lucas in 2020.
Chris has served as Principal in a professional and generous manner. During his time at Siena, his leadership has seen the school increase in enrolments and he has been instrumental in supporting the staff in being effective and impactful educators. Chris’ focus on strategic improvements has always been based in data, research, sound pedagogy and the needs of the community – most importantly the students of Siena.
As a result of Chris’ contribution, Siena is known as a school that is welcoming and which provides strong and robust learning opportunities for all students. He has also overseen significant changes to the physical environment and Governance structure of the school.
Our wider education community is grateful to Chris for his contribution and wish him every blessing for the next stage in his life journey.
In order to support the transition to the next Principal of Siena, consultation and advertising for a
replacement will commence shortly. I am hoping the successful Principal will be available to begin at the start of Term 4 as Chris begins his period of Long Service Leave.
As Executive Director of Catholic Education Ballarat, I offer my congratulations and gratitude to Chris for his wonderful contribution.
