Catholic Education Victoria Principal Standard - final draft for review
Main Points
- Our Catholic context is central to our collective purpose, which is to lead the mission of the Church through the leadership of Catholic education communities.
- Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS), in collaboration with the Diocese of Ballarat and other dioceses in Victoria, is personalising the Australian Professional Standard for Principals (Principal Standard) for the Catholic context.
- Widespread consultation across the Archdiocese of Melbourne, the Diocese of Ballarat and the Diocese of Sandhurst has occurred. Comprehensive feedback was collated and used to inform the customisation of the Principal Standard to reflect a Catholic understanding.
- All principals were invited to attend the first consultation session facilitated by Louisa Rennie, General Manager, Leadership Development (MACS) and Emeritus Professor Stephen Dinham OAM, Melbourne Graduate School of Education, University of Melbourne in August 2022.
- A final draft of the Catholic Education Victoria Principal Standard (CEVPS) is now ready. Principals and system leaders are invited to meet on Friday 9 June 2023 to review the document.
Critical Dates
- A meeting to review the CEVPS final draft will be held via Zoom on Friday 9 June 2023 from 1.30 to 3.30 pm.

Principals and system leaders currently have this meeting in their calendar as a placeholder; however, you will now need to register to attend the Zoom meeting on Friday 9 June 2023 via the CEVN website in the Online Professional Learning (OPL) application, using activity code 23LED222A.
Additional Information
- The Principal Standard is a vital tool in support of leadership excellence. Future professional learning programs and services, including the principal appointment and appraisal process, will be underpinned by the standard.

EBA Update
Following on from the update provided last week at the Diocesan Leadership Gathering we will schedule principal briefing sessions, likely next week, to provide further details about EBA staff access and voting timelines and process. At this stage, we anticipate these sessions will occur next Wednesday, 31 May and Thursday, 1 June.
CECV are finalising key documentation, and seeking final sign off, therefore the timeline may shift slightly. We will send invitations to your ‘principal@school’ email address as soon as this has been confirmed.
You are welcome to extend this invitation to your Deputy and/or Business Manager and a recording of these sessions will be made available. Additional sessions providing the Key Summary of Changes of the Agreement will be scheduled as well.
