Executive Director’s Update to Principals #31 - 23 June 2023
New Principal Appointment for St Pius X Parish School, Warrnambool West
I am writing to inform you that we have appointed Mr Nick Murrell as the new Principal of St Pius X Parish School Warrnambool West. Nick will begin his role at the commencement of Term 1 in 2024.
Nick comes to St Pius X from St Patrick’s Primary School Koroit where he has been the Principal since 2020. He was previously at St Joseph’s Primary School Warrnambool where he served in a number of leadership roles including PLC Leader, Curriculum Leader and Middle School Leader, as well as a classroom teacher.
Nick has completed a Bachelor of Education (Australian Catholic University), Graduate Certificate – Educational Intervention (Melbourne University) and most recently a Masters of Education Leadership (Australian Catholic University).
In his time as Principal at St Patrick’s, Nick has demonstrated a passion for excellence in learning and upheld the values of faith, compassion and community fostering shared leadership across the staff and wider community. He has worked closely with staff and parents to ensure a strong sense of community and parent engagement with great success. Nick has recently been invited to join the DOBCEL Family and Community Engagement Consultative Committee, in recognition of his knowledge and the work he has done in the area of community engagement.
Nick has also demonstrated a strong commitment to student learning and wellbeing, working closely with staff to ensure effective and engaging teaching strategies are implemented and measured through data analysis of student learning outcomes and student engagement. Nick has also overseen the implementation of the School Wide Positive Behaviour Support program and RELATE which is a model for supporting schools to create the preconditions for improved teaching, learning and wellbeing.
Nick is dedicated to his faith, a compassionate Catholic leader and is an active member of the Catholic community. We believe his experience, leadership skills and dedication to education will be a great asset to the St Pius X school and parish community.
