Executive Director’s Update to Principals #48 - 3 October 2022
EBA negotiations – Update on Bargaining and information on salary increases
Thank you for those principals who were able to join us for the EBA update this morning. For those not able to attend, and/or are planning to attend tomorrow morning we wanted to share an important decision with you.
There has been no significant progress made over recent weeks. The IEU has not accepted requests for further meetings since 5 August. The IEU has stated that they do not see any benefit in holding further meetings unless employers are willing to concede on our current position and accept their demands. We remain committed to reaching a fair and equitable Agreement with the IEU as soon as possible. We will not agree to claims that we can’t afford or operationalise.
We’re pleased to announce:
- While we continue to try and reach an Agreement the employer group has agreed to an interim wage increase to be passed on to employees covered by the VCEMEA in the coming weeks. This ensures that employees are recognised for their continued contribution to our schools and ensures wage parity with DET, while we continue to negotiate with the IEU for an Agreement.
CECV will distribute a co-ordinated email, on behalf of all 32 employers party to the Agreement, advising employees of this decision. Please see below for a copy of the letter.
About the Letter.
- Employees will start receiving correspondence regarding the wage increases from 4.30 pm Monday 3 October (we anticipate they will all be issued by Tuesday 4 October).
- This information will be sent directly to employees from the CECV.
- This wage increase applies to all employees covered by the VCEMEA.
- There will be some employees who will not be entitled to the wage increases which will be applied, due to not being covered by the VCEMEA and instead are covered by a modern award such as the Educational Services (Schools) General Staff Award. These employees received a wage increase in accordance with the Fair Work Commissions annual wage determination in July 2022.
Dispelling some of the myths.
We are aware that the IEU continue to share some messaging that we contend is not accurate and/or is misleading. I refer you again to Executive Update #46 16 September 2022 in response to this.
Next Principal EBA Update.
