Executive Director’s Update to Principals #21 - 6 June 2024
Staff News
We regretfully announce the resignation of Maree Baker as Manager: Human Resources with DOBCEL. Maree has been a positive and professional member of the People and Development Team and has built strong and trusting relationships with many Principals and school leaders throughout the Diocese during her time with us. She demonstrated great commitment and resilience during the lengthy CEMEA 2022 negotiations and her work advising and supporting schools has been exceptional.
Maree intends to focus on some much-needed work/life balance, commencing with a holiday in Greece with her husband, Craig. We wish Maree both personal and professional happiness and offer our genuine thanks for all she has achieved over the last 2.5 years with us.
Maree will conclude her time at DOBCEL on 30 August and we will commence recruitment processes as soon as possible.
Formation Opportunity for Early Career Teachers
(Halls Gap – 14/15 August)
The early career teacher program 2-day retreat on 14 and 15 August offers a terrific opportunity for all early career teachers in their first, second, and third years of teaching to experience a formation opportunity with their peers.
You can read more about the retreat and book staff in to attend here.
All schools are encouraged to register their early career teachers to attend. Should you need assistance in sourcing a CRT to enable an early career teacher to attend, please contact Sarah Hanley.
Schools are required to pay the registration, accommodation, and travel costs of participants.
For more information on the retreat, please contact Jim Waight.
CARSO Forum
The next CARSO Forum will be held on Tuesday 18 June in Ballarat. A link will be provided for those unable to attend in person. These Forums are designed to provide school compliance officers with the opportunity to meet and network with other compliance officers and offer a range of professional development topics. All CARSOs are encouraged to participate.
If any Principals are also interested in participating, please email Andrea Warr – awarr@dobcel.catholic.edu.au and a video conference invitation will be forwarded.

Australian Early Development Census 2024 Data Collection - Reminder
The Australian Early Development Census (AEDC) data collection is implemented every three years, with the sixth collection taking place during Term 2 from 1 May to 31 July 2024.
The AEDC measures how children have developed before starting full-time school across the following key areas of development: physical health and wellbeing; social competence; emotional maturity; language and cognitive skills; and communication skills and general knowledge.
Schools with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Foundation students enrolled will receive specific communication regarding available support.
